“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?!”

That’s what a guy called Nathaniel said when his friend Philip told him he had met God’s chosen Saviour. Jesus was a carpenter by trade, a seemingly ordinary man brought up in an unimpressive town with a question mark over his parentage.

Have you ever felt like there’s nothing redeemable in your life? Have you thought, like Nathaniel, ‘Can anything good come from this family, this place, this pain, this history, this mess?’

Nathaniel’s curiosity got the better of him and he went with Philip to see this supposed Saviour from Nazareth. He became one of Jesus’s twelve closest disciples, along with fishermen, a traitorous tax collector and an anti-Roman militant. Alongside Jesus he hung out with prostitutes and religious teachers, disabled people, religious heretics, homeless people and outcasts.

There is no place you’ve been that disqualifies you from being part of God’s story. There is no history that can’t be transformed in the light of his grace.
