We are going to look at three Bible versions that are written for people who find reading hard. They use short words and sentences. This makes them easier to read. They are some of the easiest versions of the Bibles to read and understand.

The New International Reader’s Version (NIrV)

The NIrV is based on a popular version of the Bible called the NIV. It uses easier words than the NIV. It also explains harder words. This makes it a good beginner Bible for adults who find reading hard.

You can read the NIrV online at biblegateway.com and on the Youversion Bible app. You can also buy it in a book.

The Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

The ERV was written for people who find reading hard. It uses easy words and short sentences. It is one of the easiest Bible to read and understand. In the Easy Read part of this website we usually use the ERV for Bible verses.

You can read the ERV online at biblegateway.com and on the Youversion Bible app. You can also buy it in a book.

The EasyEnglish Bible (EASY)

The EasyEnglish Bible was written for people who don’t speak very much English. It uses easy words that most people know. This makes it a very easy to read Bible for people with learning disabilities as well.

You can read the EasyEnglish Bible online at www.easyenglish.bible and on the Youversion Bible app. You can buy some parts of the EasyEnglish Bible in a book.

Let’s compare 3 easy to read Bible versions

Wooden blocks with letters stuck onto them, spelling 'Love'

We’re going to look at a Bible passage in these 3 versions of the Bible. This is 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verses 4-8. It is a famous passage in the Bible about love. Which version do you like best?

Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It does not dishonour other people. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs. Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. Love never fails.
New International Reader’s Version (NIrV)
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits. Love will never end.
Easy-to-Read version (ERV)
If I love people, I will be patient. I will be kind. I will not be jealous of other people. I will not be proud and say that I am great. If I love people, I will be polite. I will not just want to please myself. I will not quickly become angry. If someone does a wrong thing against me, I will not keep it in my thoughts. If I love people, I will not be happy when bad things happen. Instead, I will be happy when things happen that are right and true. If I love people, I will always accept their problems. I will always believe them. I will always hope for what is best. I will always be patient in troubles. Love will always continue.
