About the Image
Brighton West Pier opened in 1866 and in the early 20th century welcomed 2 million tourists a year to its leisure attractions and concert hall. Since the 1970s is has fallen into disrepair, suffering repeated storm damage. Now only part of its skeleton remains and is an instantly recognisable Brighton landmark.
This photo shows the often overlooked iron pillars that once supported the walkway from the shore.
