Perfect for children aged 5-8, this whimsical 30-minute musical follows Max, an alien visitor and new student who is trying his very best to act like a “normal” Earth boy. However, between his “Martian” reading skills and his habit of putting ice cream on pizza, his classmates quickly realise that there is something truly out-of-this-world about their new friend. When a playground emergency leaves the group in a bind, Max must decide if he is brave enough to reveal his true identity to save the day.
The production features nine speaking parts with varying numbers of lines, and large roles can be split between multiple children to ensure everyone has a chance to shine. Beyond the performance, the script provides a wealth of curriculum links and discussion ideas centred on teamwork, kindness to those who are different from us, and the value of celebrating each other’s differences. With six catchy songs – three of which can be performed as stand-alone pieces in assemblies – this musical is a fantastic way to teach your students that the things that make us different make us strong.
The book comes with sheet music and a CD of the songs, including rehearsal tracks with vocals and backing tracks for performance.
